REDEVELOPMENT OF PLAYGROUND 112 IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF ATHENS – NEAPOLI

As part of the redevelopment of Playground 112 in Neapoli, Athens, we were given the opportunity to visit several playgrounds and we realized that they are characterized by similar problems. The lack of resources is presented by municipalities as the main reason for this situation, but in our opinion the general depreciation of public space also plays an important role. Through design, we can develop the functionality and aesthetics of the playground, while developing a new way of safeguarding and maintaining it.
We treated the movement corridors, the rest areas and the perimeter security of the playground instruments as a whole. The game thus diffuses from the safety area to the movement corridors and the platforms that are created along them.
-the benches are constructed so they can function as one more toy,
-a “nest” or “treehouse” is created,
-vertical trunks function as children’s seating areas.
Finally on the issue of preserving and maintaining the playground, we are promoting with parents and the municipality a different use agreement based on cooperation. The redevelopment of Playground 112 in the municipality of Athens took place between September and November 2015.
